Buildings catch fire after a fatal explosion on July 28 in Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu Province.

As of July 29, at least 10 people had been killed, said the local government. More than 120 people of the hundreds injured were hospitalized, including 14 in critical condition.

The explosion occurred after gas leaking from a propylene pipeline was ignited when a car engine was started, the State Administration of Work Safety said. The pipeline was damaged when workers dismantled factory buildings in the Nanjing No. 4 Plastics Factory.

Nanjing, on the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, is one of China's ancient capitals with a history of more than 2,000 years. It has a population of more than 7 million.
