Taxis drive over Shanghai's Yangtze River Bridge on October 31.

The 10.3-km suspension bridge is part of the newly opened Shanghai Yangtze River Tunnel-Bridge, which links the mainland with Chongming Island, China's third largest. The $1.85-billion crossing also consists of an 8.9-km tunnel that boasts the world's largest diameter of its kind.

In addition to a six-lane expressway, the tunnel-bridge also has two railways. Its opening is expected to greatly boost the local economy of Chongming, which is now a 20-minute drive from Shanghai's booming Pudong New District.
