Three divers have made history at the 13th FINA World Championships held in Rome on July 17-August 2. Guo Jingjing, the Chinese diving queen who clinched the gold in the women's 3-meter springboard on July 21, became the first diver in history to win five consecutive world titles in the same event.
Other history-making winners are 15-year-old Tom Daley in the men's 10-meter platform and 23-year-old Paola Espinosa in the women's 10-meter platform. Daley and Espinosa are the first world diving champions of Britain and Mexico, respectively.
The FINA World Championships, run by the International Swimming Federation, are the World Championships for the aquatic sports of diving, swimming, open water swimming, synchronized swimming and water polo. |
