A 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck Yaoan the day before, killing one person and injuring 367 locals. As of July 13, seismic observatories had reported more than 800 aftershocks in Yaoan and five neighboring counties, including two measuring 5.1 and 4.7 on the Richter scale.
Local authorities said that a total of 30,832 houses collapsed and another 625,000 were damaged in affected areas, forcing more than 250,000 residents to be relocated in tents, makeshift houses or homes of their relatives.
The government has allocated 38 million yuan ($5.56 million) for quake relief efforts. |
