Saving Seal Cutting
Share

On April 20, the graduation ceremony of China's seal-cutting art postgraduates and visiting experts from the Institute of Seal Cutting Art under the China Art Academy was held in Beijing. On the same day, the exhibition of the works of the teachers and graduates of the institute was also held.

Founded in 2006, the Institute of Seal Cutting Art has gradually made the art of seal cutting an independent subject. In 2007, the institute started the first postgraduate class on seal cutting and also received visiting scholars from other countries and regions, a breakthrough in the development of the art in China. After more than one year of study in Beijing, the students have made remarkable improvements. At the Sixth National Seal Cutting Art Exhibition held in 2009, the works of two students of the institute were displayed, with one winning the first prize in a competition held by the organizers. On the theoretical side, many students published their theses in professional Chinese journals in the past years.

The institute has started its second term of seal-cutting postgraduate classes and visiting-expert classes this year, trying to move this traditional art into the mainstream of art subjects.
