Hero's Welcome
Share

A boy gives a welcome kiss to his father, who returned to China on January 12 from a peacekeeping mission in Darfur, Sudan.

The first Chinese engineering contingent of the UN-AU Mission in Darfur hybrid peacekeeping forces has completed its 14-month service. During this time, it built an army camp, an airport, an administrative office building, fortifications and more than 6,250 km of roads.

All 315 members of the contingent were awarded the UN Medal of Honor on October 11, 2008. It was the first time the UN-AU Mission in Darfur gave medals to an entire peacekeeping unit.

Another 314 Chinese peacekeepers have taken over the engineering job in Darfur.
