ECONOMIC TIES: The 14th meeting of the Sino-Germany Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation opens in Berlin on November 10. Chinese delegates pledged to increase imports from Germany, while German representatives vowed to boost investment in China

Stock Exchange Ties

The Shanghai Stock Exchange and the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE) of Israel signed a memorandum of understanding on November 10 to facilitate cooperation between them.

They agreed to mutual visits by stock exchange personnel to increase their respective knowledge of and interest in each other's bourses, according to a news release. It is hoped that the visits will encourage investments and cooperation in various aspects of their respective markets and economies, the statement said.

Ester Levanon, TASE's CEO, vowed to "work closely with Shanghai over the coming years and create opportunities to develop investment between the two markets."

Nuclear Power Peak

China plans to build at least nine nuclear power plants over the next two years, the China Atomic Energy Authority (CAEA) announced on November 11.

The new plants will help achieve the country's goal of having 40 million kw of installed nuclear capacity by 2020, which will account for 4 percent of the country's total installed capacity, said Song Gongbao, an agency official, in an interview with Xinhua News Agency.

"It shows the country's focus is on clearing up and reducing greenhouse gas emissions and attaining sustainable development," Song said.
