On November 3, taxi drivers in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality refuse to operate in protest of high management charges by taxi companies and transportation authorities' ineffective crackdown on unlicensed cabs. Xinhua reported that 9,000 taxi drivers stopped transporting passengers.
Taxi services fully resumed on November 5 after taxi companies agreed to lower their charges on drivers by 15 percent under the mediation of the government.
The government has also pledged to tighten regulations on unlicensed cabs and increase supplies of compressed natural gas for taxis. |
