From July 20 to September 20, 285.7 km of major roads in Beijing will have their left lanes reserved only for Olympic vehicles. They are marked with the Olympic Rings as a reminder for motorists.

In order to ease traffic congestion, Beijing, with 3.29 million registered vehicles, will also implement an even-odd system based on license plate numbers to keep vehicles off the roads on alternate days in the same period. The city's public traffic network, consisting of 350 existing lanes and 50 new routes operational during the Olympic and Paralympic games, is expected to transport 2.1 million passengers daily.
