Cultural relics workers inspect stolen Chinese artifacts recovered from Denmark at a handover ceremony in Beijing on April 11.
The returned antiques, 156 in total, were made over a period of nearly 3,700 years until the mid-1600s. They were confiscated by the police in Copenhagen in February 2006 and were transferred to the Chinese Government on April 4 in accordance with the ruling of a Danish court.
An exhibition of the artworks is likely in Beijing in June, according to cultural relics officials.
It's estimated that more than 10 million ancient Chinese artworks have been illegally transported to foreign countries. Some of them are exhibited in museums in Europe and America. China's State Administration of Cultural Heritage said that it will continue reclaiming artifacts lost overseas pursuant to international conventions. |
