Private Company Eyes Key Aircraft Project

A private Chinese company is looking to take a share of the nation's large commercial aircraft project, a sector that is usually monopolized by state-owned firms.

Guangdong Changsheng Aircraft Design Co.Ltd., a private company backed by a real estate developer, plans to become a shareholder in a joint stock company that will take charge of China's large commercial aircraft project. The private company wants to do the conceptual and aerodynamic design of the new aircraft.

The company brought six 1:50 aircraft models to the Aviation Expo/China 2007 in Beijing. The models included three 150- to 200-seat single-aisle aircraft and three 200- to 300-seat twin-aisle airplanes.

It has completed the conceptual aircraft design process, said Zhou Jisheng, General Manager of Guangdong Changsheng.

Stabilizing Food Prices

Measures will be taken across China to stabilize food prices by ensuring a plentiful supply for the remaining months of the year, particularly during the coming two holidays, the nation's top economic planner announced recently.

The price hikes of foodstuffs, which were partly due to short supply, drove up China's consumer price index in the first eight months of this year. The inflation indicator surged 6.5 percent year-on-year in August, the highest monthly rate in a decade.

As the seven-day National Day holidays are approaching, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) will, in cooperation with another six ministries, including the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Agriculture, take new measures to ensure supply of foodstuffs and stabilize prices, the NDRC said.
