The Ninth National Traditional Ethnic Minority Sports Meet held in Guiyang, capital of southwest China's Guizhou Province, closed on September 18.

The sports meet was inaugurated in 1953 as the first multi-sports event of the nation. Most events of the games are inspired by the daily lives of each respective minority group. After being suspended for 29 years, the second games were held in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, in 1982. Since 1991, the event has been held once every four years.

The games this year started on September 10. The nine-day event has attracted more than 6,700 athletes from China's 55 ethnic minority groups for a total of 16 title events and 188 demonstrations.
