Using Taiwan Issue to Interfere Into China's Internal Affairs 'Unacceptable': NPC Spokesman
Share

The use of Taiwan issue by certain country to interfere into China's internal affairs was "unacceptable", said Li Zhaoxing, spokesman of the annual session of China's top legislature, here Thursday.

Li made the remarks at a press conference at the Great Hall of the people in central Beijing, one day before the third session of the 11th National People's Congress (NPC) opens.

"At a time when the Chinese people across the Taiwan Strait are carrying out friendly exchanges as brothers, the advanced arms sales to Taiwan by certain country is like handing a dagger to one person when he is hugging his brother," Li said.

At the end of January, the U.S. government announced plans to sell an arms package to Taiwan, which included Patriot missiles, Black Hawk helicopters and minesweepers.

"What is the motive?" asked the former foreign minister at the press conference.

"The use of Taiwan issue to interfere into China's internal affairs and disrupt the great cause of reunification of the Chinese motherland hurts the feelings of the Chinese people across the Taiwan Strait and this is completely unacceptable," said Li, who is chairman of the NPC Foreign Affairs Committee.

"The Taiwan issue concerns China's core interests and the feelings of all Chinese people across the Taiwan Strait," Li said.
