Feng Xiaogang has defended his new movie Personal Tailor from film reviewers by publishing seven microblogs on Sina Weibo.
At a press conference held in Beijing on December 29, the director said his film was composed of three stories. The first about humanity, the second about irony, the third represents his awe of the world.
Feng argued that the comedy was a satire on many contemporary problems.
"You find me a film that's more ironic. Maybe the audience feels the film is not that funny and they are touched by Song Dandan's acting. The movie-goers can criticize me as much as they like because they pay for tickets, but not the film reviewers," Feng noted.
"You do not pay for tickets but make money from reviewing. You do not have a high level. There are comedies that not only make you laugh. Some are ironic comedies," he continued.
Personal Tailor was released on December 19 and has generated 500 million yuan ($82 million) in box office. But the film only got 5.4 out of 10 on movie.douban.com, a popular movie review website.
