American director Quentin Tarantino will have his work officially released on the Chinese mainland for the first time. His latest film Django Unchained is slated for local release on April 8, Chinese media reported.

The director is likely to meet Chinese audiences face to face at the premiere, according to the Beijing News.

Django Unchained, starring Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio and Kerry Washington, is about a freed slave who treks across the United States with a bounty hunter to rescue his wife from a cruel plantation owner. So far it is Tarantino's personal best at the box office and the film won the award for Best Original Screenplay at this year's Academy Awards.

Some bloody scenes may be cut from the film, according to the Beijing News.

Tarantino is known for the violence and satire in his films. With movies such as Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill and Inglourious Basterds, he has gained a solid fan base in China.
