China Offers Its Own Digital IMAX System
Share

A demonstration of China's first digital IMAX system was held on December 13 in Beijing.

The system, called DMAX, was co-developed by the China Institute of Film Science and Technology and China Film Group. It has been in service in Beijing's UME Shuangjing Cinema since August 8.

The test evaluation indicated that the system provided better visual and audio effects at a lower cost than regular IMAX systems, experts say.

Yang Xuepei, director of the China Institute of Film Science and Technology, said blockbusters such as The Flowers of War and Flying Swords of Dragon Gate would be screened in DMAX.

The system will be able to adapt to any newly developed film technology in the future, according to Yang.
