75 More IMAX Screens for China
Share

IMAX will build 75 giant screens in China over the next three years, the company says, with Han Sanping's Founding of a Party and John Woo's Flying Tigers being the latest to get IMAX releases.

IMAX will work with Wanda Cinemas, China's largest theater chain, for its expanding plan in the country, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Richard Gelfond, CEO of IMAX, was cited as saying that the partnership will mean the companies will operate theaters in China under a revenue-sharing model for the first time.

Founding of a Party is an all-star film made to pay tribute to the 90th anniversary of the Communist Party of China. It is due out this summer.

Flying Tigers will be about the alliance between China and the United States during World War II. The film is slated for an early 2012 release.

China's first IMAX film Aftershock directed by Feng Xiaogang, was released in July 2010. The tear-jerking drama about a family's emotional struggle after a massive earthquake is currently the No. 2 best-selling Chinese-language film in history.
