A retrospective marking the 70th anniversary of Qin Yi's acting career kicks off at the Shanghai Film Art Center Sunday evening.

Many other veteran actors, like Yu Lan, who shared the lifetime achievement title with Qin Yi at the 27th Golden Rooster Awards this year, were in attendance.

The Shanghai-born Qin Yi, 88, was the one of the most popular actresses before liberation. She joined the Shanghai Film Studio in 1949 and has played many popular roles on the silver screen over the past six decades.

Many classic Chinese movies starring Qin Yi, including Mother, Aster Blossom, Billowing Waves, and Kids in Shanghai will be screened during the event.

As a respected artist who has weathered the difficulties of the Chinese film industry and hardships of the country in early times, Qin Yi has impressed the public with her profound understanding of her characters. Having portrayed so many beautiful characters, Qin Yi is lauded as one of the greatest actresses in the Chinese film circle.

The established senior actress will continue her acting career, saying she will play a retired scientist in her next film.

The special show is held in conjunction with a grand ceremony marking the 60th anniversary of the Shanghai Film Studio.
