The China Film Association rated the top ten best domestic films of 2008 on Wednesday.

The list included Forever Enthralled, Ip Man, If You Are the One, CJ7, Red Cliff, Equation of Love and Death, Painted Skin, Dream Weavers – Beijing 2008, Super Typhoon, and Mai Mai Ti's 2008. Most of them are high-profile blockbusters and box office hits from the past year.

The association also released its annual research report on the Chinese film industry and a report on Chinese film art on the same day.

The year 2008 saw an annual output of 406 Chinese films, among which 260 were digital productions. It was the first time the number of digital films exceeded traditional films, the report said.

166 films, including 42 foreign-made films, were widely released.

The box office takings of the whole year (excluding the rural market) reached more than 4.3 billion yuan, or about $600 million, an increase of 1 billion yuan from 2007.

More than 60 percent of the income was earned by domestic productions, overrunning the imported ones for the sixth consecutive year.

The reports also point out some problems in the development of the Chinese film industry, such as the limited genres and the growing commercial influence on Chinese films.
