Years, the Yangtze River Civilization Show, the Beijing Cultural Relics Exhibition, the Exhibition About the Sports and Games Both Within and Outside the Forbidden City, and the Equal Competitions-The Exhibition of the Competition Spirits of the Ancient Greece.
These exhibitions gathered more than one thousand cultural relics and treasures from more than 70 museums in 27 China's provinces, which is unprecedented in the history of China. The China Memory is particularly special, as it includes 169 first-grade national treasures from 55 museums around the country.
From the Terracotta Warriors found in the mausoleum of the Emperor Qinshihuang (B.C.259-B.C.210), and the jade dress sewn with gold thread of the Han Dynasty (B.C. 202-220), to some ancient classic paintings and bronze wares, most items on display are quite familiar to Chinese. They have all been seen in textbooks from a young age, but few have had the chance to see all these treasures up close and in person.
"It is because of the Olympic Games that all these authentic pieces of cultural relics are being collectively shown in Beijing," said Yao An, Deputy Director of the Capital Museum.
Protecting and preserving these treasures is a big task for Yao and her team. In order to ensure the safety of these national treasures, special lighting and sensors have been installed, said Zhang Jie, Director of the Research Department of the Capital Museum.
Seizing this unusual opportunity, Xi has decided to visit all the exhibitions in Beijing during the following two months. "I will not waste this chance to see so many national treasures in one place," he said.
According to Yao of the Capital Museum, the five major exhibitions have been carefully thought out. The China Memory is expected to convey a general idea to visitors about the Chinese civilization; the Beijing Cultural Relics Exhibition, featuring exquisite porcelain, aims to help visitors learn the history and culture of Beijing; the Yangtze River Civilization Show displays the unique culture of the Chinese nation; and the Exhibition About the Sports and Games Both Within and Outside the Forbidden City illustrates the sport-related life in ancient China, showing that many activities in the past may be the origins of current sports events.
And of course, the exhibitions will not lack the Olympic theme. The fifth exhibition in the Capital Museum, Equal Competition-The Exhibition of the Competitive Spirit of the Ancient Greeks, is directly related to the Olympic Games and will present the culture of a different country. The items on display show the scenes of ancient Olympic competitions, such as the moment of throwing a javelin or a discus.
For art lovers, there is an exhibition of paintings titled From Ancient Olympia to Beijing: Greek and Chinese Artists Discuss Truce, Fair Play, War and Peace, which presents works by distinguished Greek and Chinese artists. The artworks shown at the exhibition are focused on the theme of peace, truce and sport. It demonstrates the long road from Greece to China.
And the exhibition feast in Beijing doesn't end here. More interesting things are waiting for visitors. At the China Science And Technology Museum, the Exhibition of Ancient Chinese Invention Artifacts is also on in August and September. It will focus on printing and other skills such as silk making, paper making, bronze casting and porcelain firing in ancient China.
Also catch the Exhibition of Shoushan Stone Seal Cutting Art at the National Center for the Performing Arts. Seal cutting is a special art in China, which features the exquisite carvings by artists on a small piece of metal or stone, such as the Shoushan Stone, known as the national stone of China.
Visitors turning up in Beijing to watch the Olympics have won the cultural lottery with this surfeit of national treasures on display. As Yao An, Deputy Director of the Capital Museum said, "Appreciating so many precious relics under one roof is the chance of a lifetime."
