The development and construction of the Beibu Gulf Economic Zone has received great attention from the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).
At the Fifth Session of the 10th CPPCC National Committee, which began March 3, Jia Qinglin, Chairman of the 10th CPPCC, specifically mentioned development and construction of the Beibu Gulf Economic Zone when delivering the Report on the Work of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the CPPCC.
In his report, Jia proposed holding a special consultative conference on how to accelerate the development of the Beibu Gulf Economic Zone and promote regional economic cooperation and development in the Beibu Gulf area.
"We will organize special research projects and inspection tours for National Committee members focusing on how to strengthen and improve macroeconomic regulation, restructure the economy, change the pattern of growth, strengthen conservation of energy and resources, protect the environment, promote reform, open up and innovate independently, stimulate social development and solve problems concerning the people's well-being. We will achieve great results," Jia added.
The Beibu Gulf Economic Zone includes administrative regions of Beihai, Qinzhou, Fangchenggang and Nanning in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Covering a land area of 42,500 square km and a sea area of 129,300 square km, the Beibu Gulf Economic Zone plays a very important role in the strategic structure of China's development and opening up. Located in southwest China, the Beibu Gulf Economic Zone faces Southeast Asia, and is at the juncture of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area, the Pan Pearl River Delta Economic Delta and the Southwest China Economic Circle. It is the only coastal and border area in the western part of China. It provides a convenient access to the sea in southwest China and an important base to promote all-round cooperation between China and ASEAN. At the same time, the Beibu Gulf has abundant natural resources and convenient transportation.
