An expert attending a human rights forum in Beijing has called for a peaceful international environment and sustainable international community to solve conflicts regarding science, environmental protection and human rights.

"Peace is the fundamental precondition and basis for all development, including that of human rights," Ji Peiding, deputy director of the China Foundation for Human Rights Development, said at the closing ceremony of the fifth Beijing Human Rights Forum, which began on Wednesday.

"We must oppose all unrighteous wars and fight terrorism, extreme nationalism and racism of all kinds, as well as create a good international environment for the sustainable development of mankind," Ji said.

He said all countries in the world need mutual respect and tolerance so as to build a healthy international community for sustainable development.

"We should solve our differences and disputes through consultation, talks and negotiations, rather than resorting to the use of force," Ji said.

The international community needs to establish an effective mechanism to help developing and underdeveloped countries share scientific achievements made by developed countries, he added.

China will actively promote human rights advances in order to make contributions to the sustainable development of mankind, Ji said.

China reaffirmed its commitment to building a human rights system during the recently concluded 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.

With the realization of China's goal of building a moderately prosperous society by 2020, China's human rights undertakings will surely see greater progress, Ji said.

The two-day forum attracted more than 120 human rights experts and officials from 30 countries and regions, as well as several international organizations, to exchange views on the relationship between science and technology, environmental protection and human rights.
