Share

Guo Jinlong, mayor of Beijing, was elected secretary of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Tuesday.

Guo, born in July 1947, was elected to the post at the first plenary meeting of the 11th CPC Beijing Municipal Committee.

Guo, a native of Nanjing in east China's Jiangsu Province, joined the CPC in 1979. He worked for many years in southwest China's Sichuan Province and Tibet Autonomous Region before serving as Party secretary of east China's Anhui Province from 2004 to 2007.

His political career in Beijing began in November 2007, when he was appointed vice secretary of Beijing's CPC Municipal Committee and acting mayor.
