President Hu: SCO Explores New pattern for Regional Cooperation
Share

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) has successfully explored a new method for regional cooperation by following new trends in security and development, President Hu Jintao has said.

The SCO conforms to the current trends of peace and development and the common aspirations of all people in the region, Hu said in a written interview with media organizations from SCO member states ahead of the organization's Beijing summit.

Hu said the SCO has advocated a new security concept that allows its member states to firmly maintain their interests, explore development paths that are suited to their individual conditions and fight against "interventionism."

The SCO will strengthen consultation and communication on issues related to the core interests of its member states and enhance coordination and cooperation on major international and regional issues, he said.

SCO member states should follow the trend of economic globalization and work to complement each other's advantages in order to promote economic growth and improve livelihoods, said the president.

The SCO is committed to sustaining inclusive dialogue among the people of its member countries, as well as respecting differences between its members, Hu said, adding that the group's members have carried out cooperation while drawing on each other's strengths.

The SCO is a non-confrontational organization, Hu said, adding that the group has set an example for deepening friendly cooperation, promoting common prosperity and maintaining regional peace and stability.

SCO member states will work together to better organize their cooperative efforts for the benefit of their respective citizens, Hu said.

The 12th meeting of the Council of Heads of Member States of the SCO will be held in Beijing on Wednesday and Thursday. Hu will chair the meeting.

Founded in 2001, the SCO includes China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
