China on Wednesday called for dialogue and consultation to address the Korean peninsular issues, saying they were the only correct choices.
"China hopes to see the involved parties remain calm and restrained, and maintain contact to continue to promote the denuclearization process on the peninsula", Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Weimin told a regular press conference.
"China always believes peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in the northeast region serve the common interests of the concerned parties, which are also their common responsibilities", Liu told reporters.
On Monday, the UN Security Council, in its presidential statement, strongly condemned the recent satellite launch by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), saying the move raised "grave security concerns." It demanded Pyongyang's full compliance with Security Council resolutions.
Liu said that the Feb. 29 U.S.-DPRK agreement bears high significance to the denuclearization process as well as peace and stability on the Korean Peninsular, voicing hope that the two sides could cherish and continue to carry out the deal.
The DPRK said on Tuesday that it now wasn't obliged to follow the Feb. 29 agreement, as the Unites States had completely breached it with confrontational acts.
In the agreement, the DPRK agreed to impose a moratorium on nuclear tests and long-range missile launches and allow international nuclear inspectors to return to the country. In return, the United States agreed to provide the country with 240,000 tonnes of food aid.
