CPC Central Committee Kicks off 6th Plenum
Share

The 17th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) opened its Sixth Plenary Session in Beijing Saturday to work over the country's cultural development.

The Central Committee members will discuss issues on deepening the reform of the country's cultural system and promoting the development and prosperity of the socialist culture at the plenum, which is scheduled to end on October 18.

Currently, China is facing with rare opportunities for cultural development as the country stands on a pivotal stage for building up an overall prosperous society.

The central authorities have realized that culture has increasingly become a major source of national cohesion and creativity, a major factor in the competition of comprehensive national strength, and a backbone of the country's economic and social development, while spiritual and cultural contentment is becoming a cordial aspiration for the Chinese people.

The plenum will summarize the achievements and experiences from the cultural reforms in the past, and draft further guidance, goals and major measures that are of significant importance for the country to stick to the path of socialist cultural development with Chinese characteristics, according to analysts.

On September 26, the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee held a meeting where participants heard and discussed a report on a drafted resolution of the CPC Central Committee regarding cultural reforms.

Analysts say the document has embodied the wisdom of the entire CPC and other groups and will become the guidance for accelerating the country's cultural reforms and development under the new trend.

The CPC has solicited opinions to improve the resolution from representatives of both Party members and non-Communists.
