Share

Liu Jiayi, auditor-general of China's National Audit Office (NAO), will take up the position as chairman of the United Nations Board of Auditors (UNBA) starting January 1, 2011, the NAO announced in Beijing Wednesday.

Liu, who was appointed as auditor-general of the National Audit Office (NAO) in March 2008, will hold the UNBA position for a two-year term, said a statement posted at the website of the NAO.

According to a document posted at the website of www.un.org, the General Assembly established UNBA in December 1946, with the purpose to audit the accounts of the UN organizations, funds and programs and to report its findings and recommendations to the Assembly through the Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions.

UNBA has three members on it. The chairmanship of the Board is rotated every two years and is currently held by Terence Nombembe, Auditor-General of the Republic of South Africa.
