BEIJING, April 28 (Xinhua) -- China Wednesday again called for dialogue and a peaceful solution to the Iranian nuclear issue.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu made the remarks in response to a reporter's question after President Hu Jintao discussed the issue with his French counterpart, Nicolas Sarkozy.

Jiang said China regards dialogue and talks as the best method to settle the issue, and meanwhile does not oppose a dual-track strategy.

China, a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, is a key member of the six-nation mechanism considering the Iranian nuclear issue. Other members include the United States, Russia, Britain, France and Germany.

As a member of the mechanism, China has participated in a constructive manner in discussions aiming for a diplomatic settlement of the issue and the suggestions made by the United States, Jiang said.

She said China keeps to its stance of maintaining the international nuclear non-proliferation system and safeguarding the peace and stability of the Middle East.

"The related actions are expected to promote a proper resolution to the issue through dialogue and negotiation," she added.

Sarkozy arrived in Xi'an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province, Wednesday morning, starting his three-day state visit to China.

He will also visit Shanghai and attend the opening ceremony of the Shanghai World Expo scheduled for April 30.
