The appreciation of the yuan cannot solve all the problems that exist in Sino-U.S. trade. Furthermore, it is not the top concern among U.S. companies operating in China, said Christian Murck, the new president of the American Chamber of Commerce in China (AmCham-China).
AmCham-China's "2010 China Business Climate Survey" indicates that most U.S. companies rank the Chinese and global economic slowdowns as chief amongst their concerns for the coming years. In addition, increasing labour costs also rank high.
Murck and his organization hope to bring the true concerns of enterprises running businesses in China to the attention of U.S. congress, officials and local media groups. A visit to Washington, under the banner of "seeking the way forward", is to be undertaken as part of this mission.
AmCham-China will send a delegation to Washington between May 3 and May 6 this year to exchange views on Sino-US trade relations with U.S. officials, congressmen and media groups, Murck revealed in Beijing on Wednesday.
This year, AmCham-China released the Business Climate Survey as a separate document for the first time, to provide standalone information that can quantify the shifting business climate in China. In previous years, the survey served as an important part of the organization's annual White Paper on the State of American Business in China.
Christian Murck's term began on April 2, 2010. He will serve a three year term as president.
AmCham-China is an independent, non-profit organization representing the interests of over 2,600 companies and individuals doing business throughout China.
