European Union leaders were not able to reach a decision on concrete measures aimed at aiding Greece's financial difficulties, Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann said Wednesday.

The prime minister made the remarks after the day's EU summit.

Some Austrian politicians even criticized the EU inactivity.

Alexander van der Bellen, former chairman of Austria's Green Party, said the EU summit usually finds it hard to come to an agreement.

Wolfgang Schussel, former Austrian prime minister, said the EU summit is more like a "commonplace."

Up until now Greece has not applied for concrete assistance from the union, only to leave bilateral assistance to the International Monetary Fund.

While addressing the EU summit, Austrian Prime Minister Faymann said that his government would focus more on achieving the five major objectives of the new EU prosperity strategy "Europe 2020," on research and development, climate change and clean energy, education and poverty reduction.
