Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said on Sunday China condemned the attacks by a Darfur rebel group on Sudanese capital Khartoum.

Qin said in a press release that China condemned the attacks which led to casualties of civilians, and China hoped the Darfur armed rebel group could join in the political process as soon as possible and resume negotiation with the Sudanese government, for the early signing of a comprehensive peace agreement, to realize peace, stability and development in Darfur.

The Darfur armed rebel group Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) attacked Khartoum Saturday, resulting in civilian casualties.
