Shanghai Expo Releases List of Restricted Items
Share

The Shanghai World Expo has released a list of restricted items that visitors will not be allowed to take into the Expo Park. They include soft drinks, alcohol, cigarette lighters, matches and kites. The items are listed in a visitors' guide published April 18.

The organizers say beverages will be widely available within the park at prices no higher than outside. There will be roughly 2,000 drinks stalls. There will also be smoking zones with cigarette lighting facilities around the pavilions.

Visitors will not normally be allowed to deposit restricted goods, and although exceptions may be made for expensive items, this will not be "encouraged", according to Huang Jianzhi, deputy director of the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination.

Organizers say they will take temporary measures to ensure safety in the event of bad weather, overcrowding, technical failures and other unexpected events. Huang said the visitors' guide should be seen as a contract between the visitors and the organizers, and it is the duty of visitors to follow the rules set out in the guide.

There will be 170 reservation machines at major exits and entrances allowing visitors to reserve places at 20 of the major pavilions, including the Chinese pavilion, themed pavilions and major overseas-funded pavilions.

The full list of forbidden items is:

Soft and hard packaged beverages and alcohol (Milk products to be consumed by infants and liquid medicines are allowed);

Animals (apart from guide dogs);

Igniters (lighters, matches and so forth);

Items that can fly (kites, gliders, fire balloons, model airplanes, and so on);

Publicity material (banners, billboards, leaflets and so on);

Vehicles, including motorcycles, help-move-vehicles, bicycles, electric bicycles, motorized wheelchairs, scooters, skateboards, and roller blades. (prams and pushchairs, manual and electrically powered wheelchairs are allowed);

Wireless apparatus (radio-controlled toys, intercom sets and so on)

Any other item that may impede or endanger other visitors or their property or disturb order and security inside the Expo Park.
