A closer look at Airshow China 2012

The ninth China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition took place in Zhuhai, south China's Guangdong Province, from November 13-18. Some 650 domestic and foreign manufacturers from home and abroad anticipate 400,000 visitors during the six-day exhibition.

A total of 113 aircraft have been displayed at the show, and 39 of them have taken part in a fly-over performance. In addition, 30 deals worth a record of $11.8 billion being signed, according to the show organizers.

The next air show will be held on November 11-16, 2014, in the same city.

A model of the Beidou Satellite Navigation System. China began to construct the system in 2000 with a goal of breaking its dependence on the U.S. Global Positioning System by 2020. Authorities plan to launch a total of 30 satellites to complete the system, with the 16th satellite being launched last month (LIANG XU)
