Chinese entrepreneurs look to Europe

Aigo Digital Technology President Feng Jun addresses the Aigo Entrepreneur Alliance (YU LINTAO)

As more and more private enterprises have gained ground in recent decades, many ambitious entrepreneurs do not limit their concentration to the domestic sphere anymore. Many of them are planning to expand their businesses globally. Aigo Entrepreneur Alliance (AEA), a group of top Chinese investors composed by President of China Merchants Bank Ma Weihua, Aigo Digital Technology President Feng Jun, Himin Solar President Huang Ming and Gree Electric Appliances President Dong Mingzhu are trying a new mode of going global—exploring the world market as a team.

On February 25, an AEA event was held in Beijing to introduce their investment model to more Chinese entrepreneurs. The activity was warmly welcomed. More than 200 entrepreneurs from all round the country participated in the activity aiming to draw inspiration for going global.

In order to attract more investment in Europe, Belgium Minister of State Armand De Decke and Danish Trade and Investment Minister Pia Olsen Dyh paid a special trip to Beijing for the event.

Decke said, Belgium lies in the center of Europe. Many European customers and companies are located very near the country. Belgium is an ideal investment market for Chinese enterprises. As the de facto capital of the European Union, Brussels is both the location of major EU organs and hundreds of international organizations as well as headquarters of 1,300 international companies.

Decke also stressed there is plenty of land and office buildings for sale or rent, which is not the case in other European countries.

But the Danish trade and investment minister laid stress on the honesty and high-efficiency of the Danish Government, which will help Chinese investors to open their businesses smoothly. Meanwhile, the world-class creative capability of Denmark could give great help for the development of Chinese companies in Europe.

Cheng Siwei, former vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress said, though China has become a great power in terms of GDP, we have a long way to go in improving brand competition and labor productivity. Thus, Chinese enterprises need to go global and develop during competition with world brands. However, when going global, entrepreneurs should master the local history, culture, legal systems of the investment destinations. There is much to learn. However, AEA is a good example for exploring world markets.

According to Feng, AEA builds a bridge for Chinese entrepreneurs and the world. By uniting together and integrating resources, Chinese enterprises could make progress together. Then, the upgrading of Chinese brands could be achieved in world markets.

Last December, a team of Chinese entrepreneurs from 25 AEA members paid a working visit to European countries for business opportunities. They visited Denmark, Netherlands, Britain, as well as Belgium. They decided to open a headquarters in Denmark for further investment planning.

Initiated by Feng together with around 10 entrepreneurs, AEA was founded in March 2011. The purpose of the AEA is to develop the internationalization of Chinese brands and to promote privately owned Chinese brands globally.
