Getting to Know Hebei
Foreign journalists are invited to get a closer look at Hebei Province

MEETING THE PRESS: Wang Jingwu, deputy director of CPC Hebei Provincial Committee's Publicity Department, addresses the launch ceremony in Beijing on October 13 (CHEN RAN)

A cultural tour designed for Beijing-based foreign journalists was launched on October 13.

Organized by north China's Hebei Province, the 10-day trip, which runs until October 23, invited over 10 foreign journalists from the U.S., France, Japan, and South Korea who are now working for Beijing Review, China Today, China Daily, China Radio International, and Morning Beijing.

The event aimed at promoting Hebei's image and culture through expat's eyes on the one hand, and extending and enhancing the culture reform and construction on the other hand, according to Wang Jingwu, deputy director of CPC Hebei Provincial Committee's Publicity Department.

Hebei in recent years has launched five cultural brandings. "Red Taihang" features the revolutionary spirit during wartime alongside Taihang Mountain, an early Communist stronghold. "Magnificent Great Wall" highlights the patriotic connotations that the province bears through its over 2,000-km-long best-preserved sections of the Great Wall. "Honest and Just Yanzhao" showcases the rich heritage of the ancient states of Yan and Zhao. "Charming Jingji" focuses on the close bonds the province has with Beijing, which Hebei surrounds. "Surfing Bohai Sea" represents the emerging maritime-related industry of the Bohai Sea to Hebei's east.

"I hope the event will showcase Hebei's rich cultural resources," Wang said.
