Zang Aimin, deputy head of the Qingdao International Sailing Week Organizing Committee, speaks at a press conference in Beijing on March 12 (CHEN RAN)

The Qingdao International Sailing Week will take place at the Qingdao Olympic Sailing Center in east China's Shandong Province, from August 21 to 29, 2010.

Zang Aimin, the deputy head of the week's organizing committee, said this year's event would highlight four main activities--the Olympic Sailing City Mayors and International Sailing Summit Forum, the second Mayor's Cup International Sailing Regatta (Dalian-Qingdao), Lushang Cup 2010 Qingdao International Sailing Regatta, and International OP Class Sailing Camp and International Optimist Sailing Regatta.

More than 40 other events including a training camp, opportunities for the the public to try their hand at sailing, summer concerts, and the China International Sailing Expo will also be held during the week.

"The event covering areas such as the sport, leisure and tourism, aims to promote sailing sports and culture to the public in the post-Olympic era," Zang said.

She said the organizing committee was negotiating to take a 32-foot sailboat to the Shanghai World Expo as a presentation platform for both the Qingdao International Sailing Week and the city's International Beer Festival, to be held from August 14 to 29.
