The six-day Taipei International Book Fair closed on February 18. As one of the largest in Asia, it was divided into five areas this year, according to themes and types of publications.

The area for comic books looked more like a theme park than a book exhibition. The hall was brightly decorated with posters of the latest publications. Animated music and toys on display also helped heat up the atmosphere.

"Lao Fuzi" has been a popular cartoon in Taiwan for almost 50 years. It is a part of childhood memories for most adults. So it wasn't such a surprise to see so many people, some in their sixties, lined up to get an autograph from cartoonist Wang Ze.

"Lao Fuzi" was created by Wang Ze's father, and he wants to make sure it remains current.

Wang Ze, cartoonist, said, "I don't want 'Lao Fuzi' to be gradually forgotten. I want to inject new life into him and give readers more enjoyment."

There were over 1,500 booths seen at this year's Fair. Britain was one of the countries represented, and several British writers were invited as special guests.
