Cai Jun turned to writing when he failed to gain admission to an academy of fine arts, dashing his childhood dream of becoming a mapmaker. He was determined to write the best novel in Chinese because he believes that Chinese is the most beautiful language in the world.
Cai began writing when he was 22 years old. He gained recognition almost immediately with a national new writer award, and published his first book Virus in 2001. In 2005 Meng Ya, a famous Chinese youth magazine, and Jie Li Publishing House began to jointly publish his suspense thriller series, including The Village Apartment (Huangcun Gongyu), The 19th Layer of Hell (Diyu De Dishijiuceng) and The Return of the Village (Huangcun Guilai), setting new sales record of Chinese thrillers. More recently Cai has also seen his stories play out on screen, including the TV series Death Loulan, based on his book Cures, and a film version of The Village Apartment.
Cai once said that he was "a favorite with the inspiration" and joked that he worried his brain might burst with the inspiration given by God. Now with his elegant style of writing, wild imagination and strong logic, Cai writes stories covering history and reality; love and horror; suspense and reasoning. He aims to build his Chinese thriller series into a brand comparable to Alfred Hitchcock, the world famous suspense filmmaker.
Major Works: Virus (Bing Du), Curse (Zu Zhou), God Is Watching You (Shen Zai Kanzhe Ni), Margaret's Secret (Magelite De Mimi), and The Human World (Ren Jian), etc.
