Anti-Dumping Review
The Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) announced on July 21 that it will review anti-dumping measures imposed five years ago on trichloroethylene (TCE) imported from Russia and Japan. The review is slated to conclude within 12 months.
TCE is widely used as a cleaning material in the production of home electronic appliances.
China began to levy tariffs on TCE imported from Russia and Japan on July 22, 2005, after finding the imports damaged the domestic industry.
China required TCE exporters in Russia and Japan to pay a 159-percent anti-dumping tax, except for Russia-based Usoliekhimprom LLC, which was given a 3-percent anti-dumping tax, said the statement.
Boeing Soars
Boeing Co. sold 800 airplanes to Chinese air carriers by July 20 this year. The 800th plane was a next-generation 737-800 delivered to Air China.
"We have witnessed the rapid development of the aviation industry in China. We are honored to be part of the development by providing our best products and services," said Jim Simon, Vice President of Sales for China at Boeing Commercial Airplanes.
China's first Boeing order was for 10 707s in 1972, and to date the company's jets are the mainstay of China's air travel and cargo transportation industry, accounting for more than 50 percent of all commercial jetliners operating in China.
Oil Business Boom
China Petroleum and Chemical Corp. (Sinopec), China's largest oil refiner, said on July 20 that it processed 101.45 million tons of crude oil in the first half of 2010, up 16.74 percent year on year due to the strong growth of the Chinese economy.
Sinopec's diesel output increased by 13.33 percent to 36.72 million tons in the first half from a year earlier, while kerosene was up 29.96 percent, the company said.
Trade Fair in Xiamen
The 14th China International Fair for Investment and Trade will be held in Xiamen, Fujian Province, on September 8-11 this year.
At a press conference held by the organizing committee of the fair on July 21 in Beijing, Huang Ling, Vice Mayor of Xiamen, said 287 delegations from 76 countries including the United States, Italy, Germany and Russia have agreed to participate.
Huang said a dozen countries will hold promotional activities to attract Chinese investment in their countries.
Picture-Perfect Expansion
Fuji Xerox Co. Ltd. will expand production and sales in China as the Chinese economy booms, the Japanese company's president Tadahito Yamamoto said in Beijing on July 19.
Fuji Xerox has three factories in China—in Suzhou, Shenzhen and Shanghai—and will expand its production base in Shenzhen.
The company has invested over 1.5 billion yen ($17.35 million) in the Shenzhen factory since 2009. The factory was built in the 1990s because of the region's low-cost labor force, the local government's favorable policies, and the large amount of land available in the area, Yamamoto said. |
