Coach Dismissed

(XINHUA)

Jose Antonio Camacho, coach of China's national soccer team, was dismissed by the Chinese Football Association (CFA) after the team's 1-5 loss to Thailand. The CFA decided to terminate its contract with the Spaniard on the night of June 21.

The CFA signed a three-year contract with Camacho in August 2011. Shortly after his appointment, China suffered an early knockout from the 2014 World Cup qualifiers. The national team lost to Brazil 0-8 in September last year and saw its FIFA ranking slip to 109—its all-time low—in March.

Camacho, 58, is a retired Spanish left defender. He spent 15 professional years at Real Madrid, before starting a coaching career.
