China's Vice Finance Minister Li Yong was appointed director general of the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) at the General Conference on June 28.

The newly elected director general said UNIDO is faced with both opportunities and challenges, and that he would try his best to work together with member states to ensure a bright future.

Li is a senior economic and financial policymaker in China and has been a member of the Monetary Policy Committee of the Chinese central bank for a decade.
