China's currency, the renminbi or yuan, rose to a record high of 6.3001 against the U.S. dollar on January 4, the first trading day of 2012, according to the China Foreign Exchange Trading System.

20.22 million

During the New Year holiday (January 1-3), 20.22 million people traveled by train, up 2.2 percent year on year, according to the Ministry of Railways.

China will scrap 253 administrative fees on enterprises by provincial-level governments, effective February 1, 2012, according to the Ministry of Finance.

259.2 billion yuan

China recouped 259.2 billion yuan ($39.57 billion), half of its misused funds in local debts in 2010, said the National Audit Office.
