The World Economic Forum (WEF)'s 17th Annual Meeting of the New Champions, aka Summer Davos, was held in Dalian, Liaoning Province, on June 23-25. Davos is the Swiss mountain resort where the WEF's high-profile annual meeting is held in winter. This year's Summer Davos brought together more than 1,700 representatives from over 90 countries to explore how innovation can be scaled and unlock wider economic growth, with deliberations centering on topics such as how to understand the next phase of China's economic trajectory and how technology can be harnessed for outcomes in the real economy.
The meeting served as a crucial window for the world to re-examine China's industrial landscape at the start of the country's 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30). China is advancing its modernization through high-quality development, putting innovation at the top of its agenda. Its massive market, well-developed industrial system, continuously increasing research and development investment, and the transformation and upgrading of its consumption structure have fostered a favorable environment. Multinational corporations eagerly seek policy signals and investment opportunities from Summer Davos, while China uses the meeting to convey to the world its unwavering commitment to further opening up.
During the latest forum, participants engaged in in-depth dialogues on several fields, including AI, green transformation and the digital economy. They not only analyzed the structural challenges faced in the current global economic recovery process, but also shared the practical experience of different economies in promoting innovation and achieving inclusive growth. The signals it conveyed will continue to inspire business entities to collaborate across sectors, allowing China's open development to further benefit the entire world.
Despite pressures on global economic growth, the Chinese economy has demonstrated strong resilience, injecting momentum into the global economy. From January to May, the added value of China's leading industrial enterprises rose 5.4 percent year on year, while the total value of imported and exported goods increased 15.3 percent. The added value of the digital product manufacturing industry grew 12 percent, much faster than the growth of all leading industrial enterprises.
Leveraging Summer Davos and other international exchange platforms is part of China's long-term plan to become increasingly open to the world. In doing so, it will continue to share opportunities and work together with other countries to promote development through innovation.
