The two-week First Session of the 11th National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, closed here Tuesday morning after completing its agenda.

The closing meeting, held at the Great Hall of the People in downtown Beijing, was presided over by Wu Bangguo, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee and an executive chairman of the session.

Hu Jintao, who was reelected head of state at this parliamentary annual session, promised at the closing meeting clean governance and appropriate use of power to serve the people wholeheartedly.

"I will serve the people and exert myself to work for the country... be a good public servant and sincerely seek benefits for the people," said the president.

He expressed thanks for the NPC deputies and the entire nation for their trust, saying he would lead the country to advance democracy and the rule of law, put people first and work in a practical manner. "I will exert my utmost not to let you down."

While delivering a closing speech, Wu Bangguo described this NPC session as a "complete success."

At the closing meeting, the legislators also adopted resolutions concerning the government work report, national development plan, budgets, and the work reports of the 10th NPC Standing Committee, the Supreme People's Court and the Supreme People's Procuratorate.
