After four years of continuous surgery, Wang Na was finally able to eat food just like you or I.

Her parents had waited 22 years for this moment.

After little baby Wang was abandoned in northwest China's Shannxi Province, a farming couple adopted her.

It seems their love and compassion overcame doubts over her condition - but despite their love, her upbringing wasn't easy.

Wang said, "I ran home from school, because I was bullied by schoolmates."

Wang's mother Li Jingyun said, "When she cried, I also cried. She was so pitiful. But I still love her so much."

The couple was determined to love her as their own daughter, and dedicated themselves to finding a cure for her.

But money was tight, even to the point where that had to give pass on one of their own sons to a relative. Their older son is disabled, so they gave away their second, healthy son.

Li said, "I really didn't want to give away my son. But what could we do? We can't afford them."

The couple sold their livestocks and borrowed from relatives. But even when they went to hospitals, doctors were confounded by the girl's ailment.

But in 2006 they went to the Fourth Military Medical University's dental hospital, where doctors were deeply touched by their story. The hospital assembled an expert team and performed three operations on Wang - free of charge.

In 2010 the surgery was a success. Wang became the first person born without an upper jaw bone recovered after reconstructive surgery.

And now Wang is living a normal and happy life with her loving family.
