| Dear fellow traveller,
As we are nearing the end of the year in the West, summer gets underway in serious fashion in southern Africa. It is a fantastic time of year to travel to this part of our magical continent and get away from the endlessly cold nights and days in the north. Of course, there are some parts of Africa that just never experience winter at all such as the idyllic tropical Indian Ocean island archipelago of the Seychelles. The 115-island country lies 1,500 kilometres east of mainland Southeast Africa and with a population of 90,024, has the smallest population of any African state. We take you on a journey to three of these islands and show you the splendour and pristine beauty of one of the most breathtaking places on the planet.
Another hot destination this time of year is Botswana – in so many more ways than one. The Northern Tuli Game Reserve lies tucked in the easternmost corner of Botswana and is a hidden gem. It boats spectacular wildlife, breathtaking scenery and fascinating history and culture.
And if you should per chance find yourself in South Africa this summer we know just the place for some fine Italian dining. Ritrovo restaurant is located in the green undulating hilly suburb of Waterkloof in the capital city Pretoria and has won numerous awards for its outstanding, authentic Italian food. And if you feel like a little song with your wine, the owner Fortunato – a trained opera singer - might just serenade you if you are lucky enough to find him in the mood.
And lastly we veer slightly off the long and windy Africa road to travel in Asia. Yes, yes I know the name of the site is AFRICA Travel but every once in a while a place so captivates one that it simply demands inclusion on such a widely read travel site. Thailand offers the visitor almost everything imaginable. Bangkok for shopping, nightlife and excitement, Phuket for beaches and bikinis and then there is a very special place deep in the southern jungle called Elephant Hills. This amazing elephant sanctuary has captivated my heart with its remote location, wonderful people and of course its adorable pachyderms and it will yours too.
