The Sixth Plenary Session of the 16th CPC Central Committee

The Sixth Plenary Session of the 16th CPC Central Committee opened in Beijing on October 8. Putting the construction of a socialist harmonious society in a "more prominent position" is on the work agenda of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), while sticking to economic development as its central task. This is the clear message CPC General Secretary Hu Jintao sent out at the session.

As the key CPC annual meeting of the year, the four-day conference released its plan to construct a harmonious society to a packed hall of 195 CPC Central Committee members and 152 alternate members.
