Sun Yang Claims Men's Freestyle Swimming Gold

Sun Yang of China narrowly missed the world record in the Men's 1500m Freestyle but broke the Asian record by more than 10 seconds at the Guangzhou Asian Games here on November 18.

Sun Yang, 19, dominated the longest event in the pool with a time of 14:35.43, only 0.87 second behind the world record of 14:34.56 set by Australian Grant Hackett.

Sun's winning mark was more than 10 seconds faster than the previous Asian record of 14:45.84 set by his teammate Zhang Lin.

Park Taehwan of South Korea finished a distant second at 15:01.72, followed by Zhang Lin of China in the third place at 15:22.03.
