Volunteers Helping to Ensure a Smooth Event
Share

A big part of any major sporting event is the tireless work of a dedicated volunteer corps. The Asian Games is no exception. Jonas Gilbart has more on the team of little-recognized heroes helping make the event a success in Guangzhou.

The number is incredible...60 thousand young men and women are giving their time to serve as volunteers at Asian Games venues. Perhaps more remarkable...the fact that many times that applied for the opportunity, and for those that were selected, the process wasn't an easy one.

Wang Nan, Asian Games Volunteer, said, "The first round of tests focused on basic knowledge of the Asian Games. The second round focussed on English capabilities, especially oral English. After we passed the tests we qualified to be volunteers.

Liu Mengbai, Asian Games Volunteer, said, "We received all kinds of training, including the orientation of job responsibilities and every aspect of Asian Games.

Now in place, the volunteers say they are happy to be helping...and helping the Asian Games run as smoothly as possible.

Wang Nan said, "I'm very proud to be a Guanzhou Asian Games volunteer. It has been my dream."

Zhao Xiaoyu, Asian Games Volunteer, said,"The Asian Games are every four years, this time it comes to Guanzhou. We are hosts and are able to serve the games. I feel extremely proud.
