How domestic films competed without foreign challenges in July that was shielded from all overseas films?
The champion was Painted Skin Two. The block-buster reaped in more than 700 million yuan ($109.9 million) after a month of screening, and it is still playing. Following this movie, but far behind it, Caught in the Web, made just one seventh the amount of Painted Skin Two.
With an exclusive market, more than 20 Chinese films were jammed into July. However, most of them only screened for less than a week to make way for the highly-anticipated Painted Skin Two.
But audiences did not seem satisfied with the "protected" movie market. Total box-office revenue this month was disappointingly down 20 percent from that of last July. For those who fancy imported block-busters, they'll have to wait until the end of August.
